Norway Job Listings
The entire country of Norway can almost be regarded as one of the great natural wonders of the world. Finding a TEFL job in Norway places you in a land where you can take life-altering trips almost every weekend. It is a country that perfectly illustrates the awesome wonder of the planet we live on. The jagged walls of rock that make up much of the remarkable coastline are bettered only by the dramatic and sheer-sided fjords that enter the sea after cutting through the rocky terrain from deep inland.
On weekends off explore glaciers and a mountainous land that has acted as a natural fortress for the country over many centuries. Even the sky above plays it part in creating a land of unparalleled beauty. During the summer months you can witness the surreal twilight of the midnight sun. Then, in the winter months, especially in northern Norway, witness the mind-blowing phenomena of the Northern Lights in all their glory. Although it is sometimes possible to catch the ‘aurora borealis’ in other parts of Northern Europe, watching them dance above your head in Norway is an altogether different experience, never likely to be forgotten. Add in reindeer, musk oxen and the polar bears to be found in the Arctic north and you can understand why TEFL teachers call Norway a once-in-a-lifetime work and travel opportunity.
The gorgeous natural beauty of Norway is enhanced by the unique and vibrant culture of its people. It is a country where the people are largely shaped by the climate and skiing is a form of transport rather than a winter sport. If you love adventure, then you will find plenty to do, with world-class opportunities for whitewater rafting, mountain biking, hiking and of course skiing and snowboarding.
The cities of Norway, especially Oslo, are cosmopolitan, full of life and highlight the Scandinavian flair for design with their architecture. Visit Bergen, the old capital of Norway and admire the almost cute wooden buildings, its dramatic mountain backdrop, but also experience nightlife which packs plenty of punch. Relax by enjoying a spot of fishing or visiting one of the many famous hot springs.
If you are looking for a TEFL job in Norway, then you have a number of options. It is possible to find work in private schools but also by becoming part of the pool of native speakers used by the state school system. Unfortunately, jobs tend to be parttime rather than fulltime, and this is something you should consider before heading to Norway to look for work. If you are looking to stay beyond the short-term, then you will probably want to find private students or a second job to supplement your income.
TEFL teachers who have experience and higher-level qualifications can also look for opportunities in Norway’s universities. Although pay for an English teacher is not bad, Norway is an expensive country in which to live, with both high taxes and a high cost of living.
