Indonesia Job Listings
Unsurprisingly, TEFL jobs in Indonesia are highly sought after by ESL teachers hoping to put their qualifications to good use in this beautiful location. Fortunately, there is currently a great demand for ESL teachers due to booming tourism and the international companies that the country presently hosts.
The highest demand for EFL teachers can be found on Java, the largest of the country’s many islands. Jakarta, the nation’s capital, is located here, and is home to not only the oil industry, which plays such a large part in the nation’s economy, but also to more than half of the country’s population.
It is undoubtedly the oil industry and tourism sector which are fuelling the need for ESL teachers. Children are being influenced to learn the language from a young age, while adults who have not previously had the opportunity to do so now feel it is essential for their careers. With this in mind it should be noted that business English is especially popular in Indonesia, so ESL teachers with experience of specialised training in this area are particularly coveted. Teachers with experience of teaching young learners are also popular, and should expect to find their young students exceptionally keen to learn.
There are, however, an abundance of jobs for all those who possess a strong TEFL qualification. There are plenty of private academies to be found in Jakarta, on sun-soaked Bali or in one of the many other cities. And while public schools lack the funds to hire ESL teachers, private academies are taking advantage of the demand for the language. This may mean that some schools will require a degree as well as a TEFL qualification, though with this requisite there may come the benefit of your prospective school paying for your flights.
Salaries within private academies and language schools are competitive if you possess the above-mentioned qualifications. Experience may also play a factor, both in your being chosen for an available position and for the recompense offered. However, with even a modest salary you will find that you can live more than comfortably and be able to enjoy the many sources of culture and entertainment on offer.
Having found a TEFL job in Indonesia, you are required to apply for a work permit alongside your work visa. This visa, known as KITAS, is often arranged for you by your employer after a contractual offer has been made. It is essential that you are also aware of the fact that before you wish to leave Indonesia you must request an exit visa. This visa can only be supplied after an official letter of permission has been granted by your employer. Usually this poses no problem, yet occasionally a bad working relationship may make this red-tape procedure unpleasant and even difficult to complete.
TEFL jobs in Indonesia offer the perfect opportunity for teachers hoping to put their skills to work while surrounded by tropical landscapes, sun-drenched beaches and endless opportunities to teach.
