The Sunkissed TEFL Teacher
My name is Sarah and I am from the UK. I took my TEFL course in January 2018. I had a relatively ‘normal’ life back then – I had worked my way up the career ladder, bought a house, and went abroad on holiday a few times a year like everybody else.
After a long and difficult battle with my mental health, I decided that my ‘normal’ life wasn’t working for me anymore and something needed to change. I wanted to travel the world and live life on my terms, exploring and adventuring as I went. I knew a TEFL course would enable me to earn money whilst travelling, and I really liked the idea of teaching English and working with children overseas.
Later that year, I quit my job and sold my house to travel the world, armed with my Level 5 TEFL certificate from The TEFL Academy.
Since then, I have volunteered to teach English to asylum seekers and refugees, taught in schools in Vietnam, and taught online from my iPad whilst travelling around Vietnam, Cambodia, Mexico, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Turkey. Doing my TEFL course has given me the ability to live abroad and travel the world whilst earning comfortably for the past 2 years, and it’s also meant I had a stable income during the pandemic whilst I was locked down at home in the UK during the travel bans.
But it’s been more than just a way to earn money – it’s changed my whole life. Getting my TEFL certificate was the best thing I ever did, and I never would have had the courage to leave behind my ‘normal’ life and follow my dreams if it weren’t for The TEFL Academy. It gave me the confidence and the push I needed to make my dreams a reality, thanks to meeting other like-minded people on the course. I’ve even started a university degree studying Childhood & Youth since then because I’ve enjoyed teaching and working with children so much.
