Everything is Falling Into Place
I never imagined that I would become an English teacher!
One of my biggest dreams is to move to France. I took online French classes with a private tutor and my perspective on online language tutoring changed forever. After starting my TEFL certification course with The TEFL Academy in October 2019, I saw a teaching opportunity online, and I took it. The job was to become an English language assistant in France for the 2020/2021 academic year. There couldn’t have been a clearer sign.
I received my Qualifi Level 5 Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and my Teaching Business English certificate from The TEFL Academy in May 2020. I’m a personal development blogger, a photographer, and an online undergraduate university student, and I’ve always imagined my long-term career to be quite similar to that of a digital nomad. Online language tutoring is a perfect way to complement my current work, and since I officially started, I love it!
With my previous years of experience in blogging and my keen interest in digital marketing, setting up and managing a website seemed like a no-brainer in this instance. I initially created and shared flyers on social media, which advertised my teaching services, in different languages: English, French, Italian and Spanish. Non-native speakers would then be able to easily understand exactly what I was offering. I then took the leap and created another website, with a scheduling tool and a mailing list for my teaching journey! In this way, I am able to be very flexible with regards to my time and terms, and I am also able to set aside the necessary time to manage my other projects. It benefits me, as well as my students.
My students come from a wide range of backgrounds, including (but not limited to): French, Italian, Russian, Turkish and Filipino. There is also a wide range of time zones to cater to, and this is actually one of the aspects that I enjoy!
I regularly enjoy hosting a free group class via video, where my students are able to meet, and most importantly, speak English! It is also a very enriching experience for me as a tutor. What does my future look like?

I have been accepted into the teaching assistant program in France and I will be starting in October of this year. I couldn’t be more grateful to have my TEFL certificate, which definitely did prepare me to teach online. It also makes me feel confident to go to France to teach primary and secondary level students. I’m looking forward to having the experience of teaching in a physical classroom.
In less than 3 months of receiving my TEFL certifications, it has already paid itself off and is bringing so much value into my life on a daily basis. I would do it all over again, only sooner. This was one of my best investments ever.
