Working Anywhere In The World
My name is Gabriella and I’m 25 from the UK. I work online as a travel blogger and English teacher.
I decided to teach online after spending my summers working as a seasonal rep abroad. I was back in the UK after finishing my winter season and had a few months until I was going to join a new program for the summer. I decided that I wanted to study towards a TEFL qualification so that I could work anywhere in the world. I chose The TEFL Academy and started my course straight away.
I found it so easy to use and even studied whilst away on trips across the world. I would always take my laptop with me, so I was able to get connected and carry on with my learning from Italy, Croatia and even America. After my last summer season in America, I decided I wanted to get my course finished so I could start teaching as soon as possible.
I finished my assignments and passed the course with Merit after a lot of work but I was finally able to start teaching. I chose to teach online because it means I can work from anywhere, and my travel plans are never interrupted. The Level 5 certificate is accepted at every online school that I applied for, but I chose to teach kids in China via the online platform and I love the children I teach.
The work is fun and flexible, which means I can work as much or as little as I want to. I’m also able to fit it around my other jobs which all helps me save for my next trip. My classroom is portable which means I can teach from anywhere and as long as I’m available for peak time in China, I know I’ll have work available.

The TEFL Academy course was perfect for me, as I was able to learn at my own pace. I also did a weekend of in-person teaching training, where we had the chance to ask questions to the teacher about different teaching opportunities. It was at my weekend of training that I found out about the different ways to work online and teach English. Other students on the course shared their experiences with different apps and online schools which I found really helpful.
Teaching online is such a fun way for me to work and I can’t wait for my next trip where I’ll still be earning money while I’m travelling. I also like that my qualification means I can teach in schools around the world, as I love having the option of teaching in person as well as online.
At the moment I teach children in a kids classroom app and also teach adults in a freetalk capacity, which means they can call me with a topic in mind and just chat to me to improve their English. Every day is different but I also have my regular students who I see almost every day. They tell me about their life in China and have questions about life in the UK as well as the countries I have visited on my travels.
I’m hoping to keep teaching online whilst in the UK and looking to spend some time in Bali where I still want to keep teaching online while I explore. The flexibility of teaching online allows me to do this but none of this would be possible without my qualification from The TEFL Academy.
