Where It All Started…
After a few months and a few trips back and forth to Poland, I decided to make the decision to permanently move there and start a new life and career. Of course the first thing that I thought about was the language barrier. Would I have any chance getting a job when I can't speak Polish?
Back in 2013 I was working as a Personal Trainer in London with a very healthy client base. However I’ve never been the kind of person to stick at one job for too long, unless I see there is potential for development and adventure. Even though it’s rewarding seeing people achieve their fitness goals and gain more confidence, like all jobs after a while it becomes very monotonous.
So at the end of 2013 I decided to apply for a working holiday visa and travel around Australia for a year. Unknown to me this was where I was going to meet a beautiful Polish girl who I now happen to share my life with.
After we both returned to our home countries at the start of 2015 I decided to visit Kate in Poland. Surprise surprise, Poland looked nothing like I imagined! Beautiful beaches, great restaurants and the currency difference is amazing for British people!

After my girlfriend spoke to a few of her friends and work friends she planted the idea of becoming an English teacher in my mind…. Trust me at first I was very sceptical, especially considering the fact I remembered how well my English GCSE’s went!
While reading up about becoming an English teacher abroad I came across The TEFL Academy. They guaranteed to teach you exactly what you need to know to become a confident and successful English teacher. Once I had convinced myself this would be the right move I embarked on my 120-hour course.
Now let’s get to the interesting part….
Since July 2015 I’ve been teaching in Poland to various age groups and levels. I started by working in a language school to help me build confidence and get me on my feet.
I was working around 10 hours at the language school plus another 10 hours of private students per week.
Over time the demand for me to teach private students was becoming too much. I was working 10 – 12 hours per day for most of the week and arriving home normally around 9pm every night.
So in February 2016 I made the decision to quit the language school and go it alone to build my own language school services.
I currently teach English in companies to professional business people and to a range of private students in their homes. I have 2 more English teachers who I’ve employed since realising I cannot keep up with the demand of people wanting to learn.
Different opportunities are always popping up and currently I’m developing an online learning platform for adults which we plan to release at the start of the new school year.
All in all, I couldn’t be happier with what I’ve achieved in the space of 8 months and I still have plenty of plans for the future.
If you’re looking at teaching English abroad I’d recommend it: just be confident and go for it! You will be surprised what opportunities will arise.
