Teaching 1-2-1 in Spain
Last year I was completing my A-levels and worrying about what I wanted to do with my life. Now I am in Spain teaching English to a little 4-year old boy.
I have always wanted to be a teacher, and I have always had a great interest in languages. I have studied Spanish since I was 12 years old, and loved how knowing another language can open my eyes to a completely different culture and way of life. After completing my A-levels and working in a clothes shop to save money, I decided I needed to get out of England and experience some of the world. I signed up to The TEFL Academy 120 hour online teaching course, and haven’t looked back since.
Now I am living in Granada, Spain, caring for a little boy and teaching him English. The TEFL course has given me everything I needed to know to start building his language skills, and introduce him to English culture. From learning about English grammar, lesson planning, and how to create teaching resources, I am able to give everything I can to make learning English, fun, easy, and effective. It´s amazing to see his progress every day, and he picks up the language very quickly.
Part of the fun of living in Spain and looking after Hector is that every day brings something new. There is always something new going on which enables me to bring in new vocabulary to everyday conversation. Through the course, I have gained an insight to the complexities of the English language, which makes me much more understanding to the difficulties Hector has, and his progress on different subjects such as grammar. I am able to use my understanding from the course to explain vocabulary and grammar in an easy and simple way.
My knowledge about how to create teaching resources for different ages and levels has been vital for teaching Hector. I am able to create games and activities to help him with learning verbs, the trickiest part of the English language!
“Taking the TEFL course has been the best decision I have made!”
With easy-to-learn modules and assignments to help me apply my knowledge before going out in the real world, I feel that it has opened up so many opportunities for me. I love the fact that I don’t know what the future holds for me. In a few years’ time I could be teaching English in any country I want, travelling the world and teaching students of all ages!
I am most grateful for the fact that I am now able to pass on my knowledge of English to people all over the world. I thoroughly believe that learning a different language opens your eyes to different ways of life and cultures, and enables you to travel and understand the world. I now have the opportunity to give others this insight and change their lives for the better. Knowing English could get them into a university they want to go to, or get the job promotion they have always wanted, or even something as simple as helping a foreign person in a shop. Knowing a language goes a long way, and for me I am able to live my dream travelling to Spain, and improving my Spanish skills at the same time!
