Want to live abroad and work as a teacher of English as a Foreign Language? Then you’d best get yourself a TEFL qualification!
TEFL courses come in all shapes and sizes. Some can be done completely online. Others can be done completely face-to-face. Still others are a combination of online and face-to-face.
If you want to combine classroom training and online learning, then a Combined TEFL course could be the answer.
What is a TEFL qualification?
A TEFL qualification is a certificate which allows you to teach English as a foreign language to non-English speakers. There are various courses which result in a TEFL qualification. The TEFL Academy offers a Level 5 TEFL certificate which is the same level as Trinity Cert TESOL and CELTA. This means it’s a certificate that is recognised all over the world.
TEFL training online
Training online through a 100%-online course is slightly cheaper than a combined course. There are 10 modules to study. After some modules a coursework assigned is assessed by one of our tutors.
The course involves 168 hours of study and it can be completed within a six-month period. Many students complete the course in half that time. It depends on how much time you can dedicate to your studies.
If you pass each module, you’ll then be awarded with your TEFL certificate and you can look for work to teach English as a foreign language. The only disadvantage is that you won’t have any classroom experience, and this can be daunting.
The Combined TEFL course
The Combined TEFL course includes online study, but you also attend an intensive weekend course. This gives you the chance to get to know other students.
It gives you the opportunity to talk to your tutor who is a fully-qualified and experienced TEFL teacher. The biggest benefit though is that you get the chance to teach by yourself.
The weekend course includes teaching in an authentic classroom environment. It will give you a real taste of what teaching is all about and you can start a new job knowing that you have some classroom experience.
This experience should be included in your CV. Therefore, a prospective employer knows that not only have you got the qualifications to teach English as a foreign language, but you have also taught a class.
Accreditation Partners
The TEFL Academy was the world’s first TEFL course provider to receive official recognition from government regulated awarding bodies in both the USA and UK. This means when you graduate you’ll hold a globally recognised Level 3 (120hr) Certificate or Level 5 (168hr) Diploma, meaning you can find work anywhere and apply for jobs immediately.
