DescriptionVictory Afghanistan, a charity offering online English lessons and mentorship to Afghan girls. The reality of the political situation in Afghanistan is bleak, girls are denied access to formal education, forced to remain in their homes, and stripped of opportunities to build a better future.
Despite these challenges, their determination to learn English is truly inspiring. To meet the growing demand for our online programme, we are actively seeking another 48 English teaching volunteers for the upcoming semester, beginning in January 2025. Currently, we support 551 students weekly, but over 1,200 girls remain on our waitlist, eagerly awaiting the chance to study.
- Programme Goals: We offer six levels of English classes and two levels of mentoring, designed as a pathway and finishing school. This programme helps girls secure scholarships for degrees abroad or online and prepares them for remote career opportunities.
- Semester Commitment: Volunteers are required to commit to one semester, running from the 2nd week of January to the 3rd week of May 2025, and must remain responsive to emails throughout this period.
- Weekly Commitment: Two lessons per week, each lasting 1 hour and scheduled at least 1 day apart (e.g., 1 hour on Monday and 1 hour on Thursday). Additionally, 2 hours per week are allocated for lesson preparation or student support, bringing the total weekly commitment to 4 hours. You have the flexibility to choose the days and time of the lessons that best fits your schedule.
- Class Size: Each online classroom will have a maximum of 15 girls.
- Materials: All lesson materials will be provided to you.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Teachers are expected to approach the lessons with an understanding of Afghan culture and the challenges the girls face, maintaining respect and sensitivity at all times.
- Support and Training: Volunteers will receive onboarding and ongoing support to ensure they feel confident in delivering lessons and supporting their students.
- Student Feedback: Teachers will be required to provide a midterm progress report and a final progress report for each student. These reports help track student development and ensure they receive the support they need to succeed.
