DescriptionOujda is a prospering non-touristic city just one hour south of the Mediterranean coast with a beautiful surrounding countryside and an international airport with daily flights to France and multiple flights per week to Spain, Germany and a few other European cities at very low costs.
We are currently seeking teachers to begin observations, training and co-teaching on September 12, 2022 with an expectation to fully take over classes in October 2022. Teachers who are looking for a large, metropolis-type city, should not consider Oujda. Oujda is for those teachers who are looking to explore a genuine Moroccan experience, who enjoy cultural exchange and connecting with people, and who want to make a difference.
ALC Oujda is a great and unique place to work in a relaxed atmosphere while living and traveling in Morocco. The more experienced EFL teacher can excel with our higher levels, TOEFL classes, Business English and other projects, while developing teachers have a great opportunity to hone their teaching skills while advancing in the TESOL field. We also provide professional development opportunities with a national conference, two local in-house conferences and teacher peer groups. However, ALC Oujda isn’t just about the teaching. It’s about sharing the American experience.
ALC Oujda is a part of the American Cultural Association in Morocco and serves not only to provide high quality classes but also to provide a glimpse into American culture. We celebrate American holidays with our students, like Halloween with a Haunted House, Thanksgiving with a potluck dinner and candy grams for Valentine’s Day. We also provide free concerts, clubs, workshops and other activities for the community and have three specialized scholarship programs: In Charge for women, Insight for a local orphanage and ACCESS, a US Embassy sponsored program for disadvantaged youth. This variety also allows you to custom make your own experience with us. While your minimum teaching requirement is 15 hours a week, you can supplement these with self-designed clubs, workshops, culture days, etc., that allow you to explore your own interests with your students and the community in Oujda. ALC Oujda is the only ALC to have a partnership with the local government and the US Embassy and Consulate. This is due to the great work we have been doing in Oujda and we are looking for more teachers who want to be a part of it. -
BenefitsALC Oujda offers pay that is just slightly above the average and/or median pay for the city. Starting pay range for 15 hours of teaching a week, 5-7 classes, is from approximately 7000-9000 dirhams after taxes. That is about 700-1000 dollars a month, which is enough to cover expenses in Morocco and take side trips. The pay is based on an hourly rate and naturally higher if a teacher teaches more than 15 hours per week or does a special project, curriculum development, cultural clubs or other American cultural activities. As 15 hours is a fairly light schedule, most teachers opt for additional classes and a club or two. Pay will also be higher with greater experience. Average living costs in Oujda are 400-530 USD per month or 4,200-5,400 dirhams. Cost of living is quite cheap in Oujda. If you cook, a kilo of vegetables is about 6-7 dirhams, chicken is about 20-30 dirhams per kilo, and a kilo of meat is about 90-150. There are good restaurants around the center of town and near the University. Many of these range between 35-75 dirhams for a good meal. Sandwiches are also available around town for anywhere between 20-35 dirhams. Coffee prices at cafes are also a bit cheaper ranging from 12-15 dirhams.
Housing allowance in addition to salary: 1200 dirhams, this is enough to cover approximately half the rent in a private
apartment in more active parts of the city and could cover 100% of the rent in other neighborhoods. We do provide assistance in finding apartments as well as up to 2 weeks in a local hotel while you and a local staff member are apartment hunting.
Up to 10,000.00 dirhams flight reimbursement upon completion of 1 year.
Health Insurance (80% covered)
August holiday pay (equivalent to 1 month salary)
Annual raises (with an extra 5% after 2 years)
2 annual bonuses (for the months of Ramadan and Eid al-adha)
Breaks between 10 week sessions for exploration and travel, often 7 to 10 days between our main 10 week sessions.
